May Update - My Kingdom for an eBook!

19/5/2015

May has arrived now and there are still so many things to do for the new project I'm working on, yet I've been looking at the older ones and wondering if I should perhaps get them up to spec in case of a second edition (not that there is a need for that yet!).
The fact that I am time (and brain) limited is not helpful. I cannot spend the sort of time a week on this side of my life, let alone hours a day. It's just not possible. I'm still writing poetry everyday and at times adding the new ones to the ongoing collection; but it takes longer than I'd like and I make too many mistakes for my ego to sit happily.
I'm also very frustrated - a lot of people who know me believe me to be a 'techie', I have a wide range of technical knowledge (although retrieving it sometimes is getting more difficult) and experience in many different operating systems, applications, hardware and software - yet no matter how or what I try, I am unable to turn either of my poetry collections into an eBook.
Don't get me wrong, I can use the Word or PDF document and alter it (using online programs as well as others I have) and it comes out the other end as a sort of a 'book'. But the formatting is lost, the delicate placement of words and phrases carefully selected to convey an additional meaning; is lost.
It all runs together like drops of water in the rain. Infuriating. Enraging. I try to achieve the results I want in all sorts of ways - and I know that I can pay for it (but at about £70 per book it's more than I can afford) - but nothing works.
Surely it is not beyond the wit of (a) man to be able to accomplish this increasingly useful ability in such a technical age?
Answer on a postcard, parchment, pigeon or wall near you....
