July Update - Ruminations

20/7/2015

So July again, another year older and obviously not a year wiser. Here I sit writing these notes to no-one. I have continued to write poetry every once in a while and am also reviewing the stories I have to see how many of them I can get into a collection of short stories.
In a contemplative mood today as I saw a funeral at the church in the village where my daughter goes to school. A bright and warm afternoon I drove by a man in a blue car parking on a soft verge near to the church and had to stop to let a couple of other vehicles pass by.
As I paused, gently coming to a stop in the road near to the gate leading to the church, I saw the Funeral Car with the coffin and the man get out of his car into the light. His black tie was al most (but not quite) hidden from view.
I thought it sad that here he was at a funeral on his own, putting on his jacket and walking to the pathway to bury someone who was - what? Friend? Relative? Partner?
So I sat in the car and, connected once more to the past, wrote a poem that flowed out of the churchyard and into me. It's called 'Funeral Car' and will appear in the new collection 'Empty Boats'.
On another note (C# I think), I'm getting all the photography stuff together for our holiday in a few weeks time; looking forward to it immensely and wondering if I have enough lenses and camera equipment to take with me. (As if you can ever have enough!)
Finally for now, the fascination of connecting of reconnecting with people on Facebook has impacted on me. In the last week or so a couple of people from where I used to work have sent me a friend request. Odd the feelings that this engenders!
